Uber will launch their services again in Salem, Oregon. They had previously started services without city permission, but this time they have acquired full official city sanction. Mayor Chuck Bennett of Salem, Oregon was rider zero for their services, as he took the ceremonial first ride. Salem will mark Uber’s third market in Oregon, with services already being provided by Uber in Portland and Bend. Uber briefly had a period of time in which they were running in Salem during 2015, but regulators warned the service was violating city code. Mayor Bennett started his term in January and advocated for bringing the service back, and his support was essential in pushing this service back into Salem.
Riders in Salem can take advantage of the excitement associated with the launch. They can now request a car at the touch of a button, and to celebrate, Uber is offering up to $15 in free Uber credit to get riders excited. Enter the free Uber credit code UBERSALEM5 into your Uber app to score $5 off each of your first 3 rides in the Salem, Oregon area.
