Canadians, you can help out fire victims with Uber donations. Tens-of-thousands of residents have been evacuated from their homes in Fort McMurray as devastating wildfires continue to spread across the city. To help assist those impacted by the fires, Uber will donate $1 to the Canadian Red Cross for rides taken in Canada tomorrow, May 6, using the code UBER4FM. Here is how you can participate with Uber donations to support these victims:
- Download the Uber app
- Enter the code UBER4FM into the ‘Promotions’ section of your app
- Uber will donate $1 for rides taken on May 6 to the Canadian Red Cross to help with Fort McMurray relief efforts
This is an excellent cause because so many people are affected in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The wildfires raging through the Canadian province of Alberta have grown into a behemoth blaze that has consumed an area bigger than New York City. They have now scorched 85,000 hectares — 328 square miles — Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said Thursday. By comparison, all five boroughs of New York City add up to 304.6 square miles. Notley warned that the 49 fires, which have already forced the evacuation of the city of Fort McMurray, could spread and devour more territory because “conditions are still tinder dry.” And she wouldn’t give an estimate on when those flames will be doused.
