Adding to the list of uberASSIST cities is now Salt Lake City, Utah! At Uber, the company strives to create transportation options that fit everyone’s needs with reasonable uberASSIST rates. Today, Uber Utah is announcing a new product for riders needing an extra hand — uberASSIST. With uberASSIST, riders can enjoy enjoy safe, reliable transportation from uberX driver-partners who’ve been trained on safety requirements for those with accessibility needs. uberASSIST Utah was honored to have Everette Bacon, president of the National Federation of the Blind of Utah, take the first ride with uberASSIST. Everette has been a relentless advocate for blind citizens in Utah and has stood by the founding principals of the NFB: “To help blind people achieve self-confidence, self-respect, and self-determination.” A regular Uber user, Everette received a ride to work today from one of Uber’s best partners, Paul Bailey (4.96 rating on 2500 trips). Uber is proud to be launching this vehicle option with Everette’s support on White Cane Day, which promotes equal opportunities for, and celebrates the abilities of, those who are blind or visually impaired. To celebrate, Uber Salt Lake City is donating $1 of each ride taken this Friday and Saturday (October 16 and 17, 2015) to the National Federation for the Blind of Utah! uberASSIST expands the accessibility services for riders. Driver-partners are trained to assist riders into vehicles, and can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters. Please note, however, that uberASSIST vehicles are not equipped with wheelchair accessible ramps. It is also nice to know that uberASSIST rates match uberX prices. This means that uberASSIST rates are fair and are not excessive!
